My Valentine's Day Dress;

March, for me and for this blog, is a fresh-start, I'm going to forget just how uninspired i'd been in February, and am going to start again on my posting! I'm really excited about getting back into it! I'm so excited for spring, having experienced a few hints of it's arrival lately, with lovely warm weather, and the blooming of daffodils. I also cannot wait for Easter, it's one of my favourite holidays! Over the Easter holidays this year, along with massive amounts of revision, i'm going to be spending a week in Prague! Expect a weeks worth of blog posts coming up on that towards the start of April! Is everyone enjoying the warm weather? How're you finding the change-in-season clothing, I want to stay in a coat until at least May, and am not quite ready to get my legs out all the time! This is the dress I bought for Valentine's Day, it's so pretty and I just love the colour so much! I took a picture of the present my boyfriend Alessio bought me, I'd been looking for a type-case tray for such a long time, never managing to find the right one, when I was surprised with one as a gift! I haven't got many little bits to put on it yet, but hopefully i'll soon be able to fill it with memento's, maybe even from prague!

Thank you for sticking with my little blog, it must have been pretty boring to follow as of late! But I can promise you that's going to change, I can't wait to get my little blog up and running, and start talking to my blogger friends again!

Hope you've all got lovely weather wherever you are, and spending your time enjoying it! It's definitely one of the big bonuses of studying in Cornwall, I have a beach just a five minute walk away!

February so far!

A bit of a catch up post!

First of all, sorry that it's been such a long time since my last post, I can't believe how fast time flies! I was hoping to start posting as soon as my massive essay was due in on the 9th, which has already come and gone, and now it's nearing the end of February already! My month has been a pretty good one so far, with lots of tea and late night snacks to get me through essay writing, and then many other events! My dress came the day before Valentine's, and i'm so in love with it, I'm not particularly a big lover of the colour pink, but this is a really pretty raspberry type colour. I had a lovely Valentine's, Alessio came over and made me dinner, which was amazing, with pink lemonade in my china teacups.

The other day, I came home from a pretty boring day at University so a lovely package from my mum and dad. The parcel was from Betty's, a tearoom in Yorkshire, and it came with heart shaped chocolates, lemon & lime cake, scones, jam and teabags! The perfect afternoon tea set, thank you!! My mum also bought me 4 four milk jugs the other day, 3 cat shaped and one owl shaped jug, to match my cat teapots!

Yesterday, me and Sheri ventured into town, facing torrential rain to get to Dolly's Tearoom, where I had chocolate french toast, so good, and a cup of tea. I had a bit of a naughty day, with cream tea for dinner too!

Thank you for following my blog, and putting up with my neglect over the past month or so; with a massive increase in Uni work and a lack of motivation towards my blog, finding time to blog has been pretty difficult! But i'm now feeling more confident about my blog, and looking forward to my future posts, so thank you so much again for sticking with me, and still taking the time to follow and comment, it really does mean a lot to me!

I haven't blogged in a while, so much has been going on, I've been thrown into University work and am feeling really motivated this term. I've also been feeling really demotivated, and uninspired, with my blog, which has put me off blogging, I feel really disappointed with and have lost a bit of interest. Thankfully it's now coming back!

This outfit is pretty plain, and is actually what I wore yesterday for the Uni library, where me and Sheri spent our Sunday working! We live such thrilling lives, ha! I wear this skirt probably way too much, but it's so easy to just chuck on, and it goes with everything really! I've recently become addicted to Instagram, so if you have it, you're welcome to follow me, although most of my photo's are of food! My instragram name is charlestown92 :) Sorry about this post, I'm slowly easing my way back into blogging, I really wish I could post as often as I wanted, I just don't have time to! It's a shame! My big deadline is due the 9th of February, so until then, my posts will probably be pretty sparse and irregular, but i'll try my best!

It's my Mum's birthday today, so Happy Birthday Mum! I wish I could see her, but my Uni is on the other side of the country, but hopefully i'll get to go home soon! If you read this, I hope you're having an amazing day, love you lots!

Fancying a Change!

Cold and crisp mornings;

I haven't posted in ages! The past week has just gone so quickly, I spent most of it doing work and research in my bedroom which hasn't been too fun, but then went out on Saturday night which was a good way to end the week! It was 90's night at our student union, and me and Melanie dressed up as girls from Clueless, think thigh high socks, short skirts, shirts and matching prints!

I fancied a change with my outfit pictures, I don't really like having to take them in my room every time, especially as it involves me pushing my double bed right across the room on my own, ha! My housemate Emily, who studies Photography, happily took these pictures for me, thank you Emily I love them! This is the first time that I've really ever worn some sort of heel on a normal day, lately i've really been wanting to get more use out of my wedges and heels, but always too nervous to wear them. I have very similar black wedges from Topshop which are so hard to walk in, but I really love the look of them. So when I saw these in Peacocks for less than half the price, I snapped them up! I can still only manage a couple of hours in them though!

Thank you for all of your lovely comments on my last post, I don't think i've ever had so many before. Hearing all of your lovely feedback has really made me want to keep up my outfit posts, expect many, many more coming up!

Back to School!

I'm not really sure what my face/arms are doing in these pictures, and I really don't like these pictures at all! Oh well. I've only ever worn this dress once before, and it was for a job interview, so I'm always a bit worried that when I wear it I look like i'm ready for work, or school with the blouse under it! I really like that sort of school-y look, with tweed, knit jumpers, collared shirts, and plainer colours. I love how Cait of Wayward daughter dresses, especially during the colder months, with her lovely coats, tartan scarfs and berets. I don't know if it's noticeable, but my gloves are on a string! A couple of years ago, I bought some stringed gloves from Cath Kidston, they were amazing, I don't think I took them off ever, apart from when I lost them, and then never found them. I've since been on the look out for some similar ones and managed to find two pairs that I liked, the Cath Kidston ones in my last post, and these Jack Wills ones!
It's my appraisal week at Uni, which means i've only got tutor meetings this week, which also means i'm going to be spending a lot of time cooped up in my room working, which is not something I enjoy! At least my modules for this term sound interesting, one is called the Victorian Occult, so i'm going to enjoy reading up about seances, magicians and the supernatural. Hope your new term back at University/college/six form/school is going well!

Pretty things in the sales!

I've never really been one for sales shopping, if I ever like anything I can guarantee that it won't be in my size, and if I do find something in my size it would be something I would never buy! I'd had my eye on the Cath Kidston bag and gloves for a while, and when I saw them in the sale I knew I had to get them. I can't really justify buying stuff from there when it's not in the sale, it can be so expensive! I fell in love with the deer mug a long time ago on the Urban Outfitters website, but it quickly sold out. I never realised just how big it was until I saw it for sale in the shop, it's like two cups full! The blouse with the bobbin print is also from Urban Outfitters, another shop that I can only really justify buying when in the sale!

Unexpected treasures!

Floral embroidered dress

I saw this dress quite a while ago on Olivia, and fell in love with it! I don't really own an all black dress, and have been wanting one for ages, so when I saw this in Primark, and in the sale, I bought it without any hesitation! I love how it just goes with everything because of it's colour, but it's not too work-y because of the lovely floral print around the collars, sleeves and skirt. Plus, it's a really thick material so I can wear it in the winter, and it looks really well made. Has anyone else noticed how good Primark has been lately for clothes? I haven't managed to visit one in such a long time, seeing as my nearest one at University is nearly two hours away, but i've seen so many skirts and blouses on bloggers that you wouldn't believe were Primark.

How have your weekend's been so far? I'm trying to do some work right now, but keep getting distracted with Urban Outfitters and Asos now that my loan has come through!

Thank you for all of your lovely comments on my last post, it was so simple to make, and it would be such a good gift idea. I've been thinking about making quite a few of them with vintage china and scented, coloured, candles and selling them, do you think this would be a good idea? I'll let you know if anyone does happen!

What Charlestown Made...

A Tea-cup Candle!

I got this Teacup candle kit for Christmas from my parents, and only just got round to making it yesterday. I love teacups and saucers, as you can probably tell by now, and candles, so what's not to love?! The kit included everything you would need to make two candles, and the instructions were really easy to follow!

I didn't realise that it would be so simple to make, only involving melting the wax, and then pouring it into the cup; there aren't too many steps!

1) Bring half a saucepan of water to boil, and rest a bowl of wax in the saucepan, gently stirring till it is fully melted.

2) When wax is fully melted, dip the base of the wick into the wax, and quickly place in the bottom of the cup, waiting for it to fully dry.

3) Using a stainless steel spoon, transfer into a glass jug to then pour safely into your teacup.

4) Using two pencils, or chopsticks, hold the wick in place so that it is straight and central within the cup.

5) Wait for the wax to dry, for approximately 12 hours. Then light, and enjoy sat snuggled up with a book and cup of tea, or however you want!

A day out in Royal Tunbridge Wells!

And a bit of an OTT shirt?

Hello everyone! Hope everybody had an amazing Christmas! I can't believe how quickly it came and went, and all of a sudden it's New Years Eve! Anyway, yesterday I went to Tunbridge Wells with one of my best friends from school, and we had lunch in the new tearoom called Juliet's. It was like stepping back in time inside, with British coloured bunting, old-fashioned framed paintings, miss matched chairs and tables and of course, pretty china! It was a really lovely day, and it was so nice to spend a day with someone I hadn't seen since September.

I never really wear any loud prints or colours, but I saw this shirt on the Zara website ages ago and it was all sold out. I randomly spotted it in the sale the other day, and being the last one left, I bought it even though it's a couple of sizes to big, but I really love the fit and the print, I've worn it non-stop since I bought it! Ha! I also wore my new Russel and Bromley's, which I got for Christmas, they still haven't left my feet since, and doubt they will for a while!

Tonight I'm going to a family friends house tonight for fireworks and celebrations which should be lovely! I always used to be terrified of fireworks but now I really love them, they're so pretty! What are you all doing tonight, or do you, like me, not really understand why New Years Eve is so crazily celebrated?! I suppose it is nice to know that a year is over, with a new one bringing hope and opportunities. I'm planning a resolution's post, I really writing down what I'm planning or hoping to achieve in the year, just so that I can look back and see how it's really panned out! Happy New Year everyone!

Borrowing Sherlock Holmes' coat!

This is the new coat I wrote about the other day, from H&M, the one discounted to half price! I'm in love with the cape bit that covers the shoulders, I don't know if it's that clear in the pictures? Oh well! This was the outfit I wore today, which really didn't include that much apart from going to Tonbridge Wells to find some Christmas shoes for my little sister, and buying some cinnamon pretzels! Tonight we're going out for a Christmas meal in the Village pub, and then Christmas Eve is tomorrow, how crazy?! 2011 has flown by, hopefully 2012 will be an amazing year!

We've been getting into the Christmas spirit here, making jam tarts and mince pies, listening to Christmas music, and decorating the house! Are you feeling Christmassy yet? What makes you feel extra festive?

I just want to say that I hope you all have a Merry Christmas! Hope you all get to spend some lovely time with family and friends, eating a lot and having fun!

'Skating' at Somerset House!

Make-shift night out at the Diner!

So, the title of this post is a bit of a lie, sorry! These are just a few pictures of one of my recent outings to London lately, (I'll post the other's soon!). The first time I went, me and Alessio were planning on ice-skating in Somerset House, but for some reason we just didn't book it, and found out when we arrived that it's been booked up since the start of December?! Our fault really! So instead we walked to Carnaby Street for dinner at the Diner. I'd never been before, but have been wanting to go since the summer! The wait was so long, but it was so worth it! There were booths and all traditional diner-stuff inside, but there was a bit of a modernised London twist, if that makes any sense whatsoever! It was pretty dark in there though, so all of my pictures have either come out nearing pitch black, or bright yellow, so annoying!! I have a bit of a weird obsession with American diner's so I really could not visit this one, especially as i've been a bit deprived since the one in my University town closed down. Plus, sometimes a good burger and chips just makes everything better!

Christmas in only four more days, how crazy! We're making some jam tarts and mince pies later, so I might put a post up about it tomorrow, if you'd be interested?

Winter Wonderland!

A (mini) Winter Wonderland, Cadbury Cocoa House and some last minute shopping!

Today me and Alessio attempted to tackle the crazy shopping centre nearby for some last minute Christmas shopping. I really am not going to leave it so late next year, but thank god I'm all finished, such a relief!! A whole new 'entertainment' area has been opened, with so many restaurants, and a winter wonderland set in New York! Everything, and I mean everything, was in keeping, with 'subway' maps, mini Ed's Diner food stalls, and even a Statue of Liberty! The ice skating rink looked amazing too, but it was just so busy!

In between the frantic rushing around, swerving in between other shoppers, we stopped and had lunch in Cadbury Cocoa House. It really is lovely inside, with massive jars of all of our favourite chocolates and sweeps throughout the room, teacups and saucers on the wall, and an old-fashioned tearoom feel in the corner. I had a sausage 'butty' and a cup of tea, of course, which was delicious! I feel so relieved that all of christmas shopping has been done, and I was even able to buy a coat that I've been eyeing up for ages from H&M, which was half price!!

Sorry about the picture heavy post! I've been carrying my camera round and snapping shots like crazy lately, there's just so many things to take pictures of, what with all the pretty Christmas-sy things going on! I'm going to London tomorrow with my mum and sister's, and having lunch in Liberty's so expect a post on that soon!

Back home for Christmas!

I've been a bit absent on the blogging front, and I'm really sorry! I've just been pretty caught up with Uni work, which was all due in last week, phew, then my family came and stayed for the weekend, and then yesterday I tackled the 6 hour journey home and made it back last night!
My first day back at home has been lovely so far, it was my little brother's Nativity play with his nursery, which was pretty funny to watch, having about 30 three & four year olds singing 'Little Donkey' and dancing to 'We wish you a Merry Christmas'. Now, i'm just about to go out with my mum to choose our Christmas tree! I love Christmas tree's so much, especially the smell, I'm just really not keen on the decorating, does anyone else think it seems so exciting and fun until you actually get round to doing it, and then it's just so time-consuming haha, and it never turns out how you planned! I've still got my mess of a room to sort out, I think I brought nearly my entire wardrobe home, which is just spread out across my floor, ha! Oops!

As you can see, I brought way too many jumpers back, but how could I choose between these jumpers though?! They're all Christmas-sy! The other picture is just a little bit of my room, as the majority of my stuff is at Uni, my room at home is pretty empty, I really want to decorate it, but i'm not too sure how I want it!
Is anyone going to the Blogger event with MyStreetChic on Friday? I've bought my ticket, but i'm not too sure if i'm going. I'm really nervous that I won't know/recognise anyone there, and would be arriving on my own, which I really hate doing! If you're thinking of going, please let me know!

Cocktails for two, please!

Tea Society's Vintage Cocktail Evening!

Friday night was the Tea Society's Cocktail evening, and the last event before we break up for Christmas. The theme was vintage, so everyone was dressing up in their favourite era's outfits, and for me it was the 40's. I love seeing images of women and teenagers during the War, the hairstyles, elegant shapes, plainer colours and shoes with socks! We started off in my favourite tearoom/cocktail bar Dolly's (where I've been before quite a few times, ha!) and ordered quite a few of the delicious cocktails that arrived in teapots and teacups!

I had such an amazing night, it was really lovely to see everyone dressed up from their favourite era, even if it was a little surreal when we went into a club later on in the evening! I recently bought this blouse from H&M, and the fit was so perfect for my outfit, cinching in at the waist and with powerful shoulders. My jacket is from a vintage shop on eBay, and the skirt I borrowed from Melanie, in the picture above with me! If you ever visit Falmouth in Cornwall, you really should visit Dolly's Tearoom, it's such a lovely little gem, with cocktails with unusual names in miss-matched china. I had a Flapper's Delight, which was made up of vodka, apple juice & vanilla, and the campari and cranberry juice Queen of Hearts.
My weekend has been pretty lazy, even though I have a pretty massive deadline this Thursday, I really need to pull my socks up! Hopefully Friday will come by pretty quickly as y family are coming to stay this weekend, and I can't wait to take them to Dolly's, I know my mum will love it so much! Then after that, only one more week at University before I endure the six hour journey home!

Have you ever dressed up for a vintage theme before, which era would you choose? For me it's usually the forties or the sixties! Do you have anywhere near you, like my Dolly's, that you've fallen in love with?

Pinch punch, first day of the month!

Hello December!

Some of the things I'm looking forward to this month:

001. Spending time with my family, it feels like this term has been the longest one yet!
002. Giving out secret santa gifts
003. My University House's roast dinner and faux-Christmas day!
004. Being in my new house at home, putting all the decorations up around the house, and of course the Christmas Tree!
005. My little brother's third birthday. How is he three already?!
006. Handing in my essays next week, and having my family come to stay the day after!
007. Turning on of the Christmas lights in Falmouth tonight
008. Visiting all of the Christmas fairs around Kent with my family
009. Lazing around the house, snuggling up in the living room near the fire with my two dogs
010. Going out for walks in the chilly weather in hundreds of layers and my trusty Hunter wellies
011. Seeing all of my friends from home, who I haven't seen since September
012. My mum's hot chocolate and jam tarts
013. Christmas television and all of the cheesy Christmas films, how can anyone not like Elf?!
014. Visiting Christmas-sy London, it always looks so beautiful around Christmas time with the pretty lights everywhere and stalls selling sugary sweet goodness
015. Going to the Christmas Blogger Meet in Bristol on the 16th. Can't wait to meet everyone, feeling pretty nervous though!
016. Christmas Day. Eating way too much of my mum's delicious roast dinner, giving out and receiving gifts, watching television, just generally lazing around with the people I love!

Peter Pan Collars and Red Riding Hood's Coat

How chilly has it got recently, it's crazy, but it makes me so happy! I love the cold weather, as it makes wearing my favourite piece of clothing a necessity - the coat! I love just being able to chuck my coat over any outfit, and just feeling nice and warm under it, feeling the winter chill on your hands and face. I saw this coat a couple of Christmas' ago on somebody else and loved how pretty and cute it looked with the bow on the back, plus all of the detailing is in velvet! I really love the Rothschild's coats, and this reminds me of one of them! Anyway, I found this on ebay, and it was made by none other than Topshop, so don't remember seeing it in the shops.

I cannot believe it's the first of December tomorrow, cannot wait to go home and see my family, and spend my days doing anything and everything relatively Christmassy!

Sorry about posting only boring outfit posts as of late, my big deadlines are next week, so I haven't really been able to venture out a lot. Cannot wait till it's all handed in!

Rainy Day Outfit!

I feel like I haven't blogged an outfit post in such a long time, actually began to miss it! How crazy is it that December is just around the corner, feels like Halloween was only the other day! I really love this playsuit and felt annoyed at myself that it was only ever being worn on nights out as there was just way too much skin on show for a normal day at Uni, so I wore my white shirt underneath, also added a little bit of warmth! I feel like I've fallen off the face of the blogging world a little bit, and have been making sure to catch up on my favourite blogs this week. It's funny how much i've grown to love my blog in such a short space of time, and how it's become such an important part of my life! Soppy bit over, I promise!

I've seen that some of the Christmas lists have been popping up on some blogs, might have to do mine at some point! What sort of things do you think you'll be asking for this year? The thought of Christmas shopping at the moment is pretty daunting, but I'm going to make sure that I don't leave it as late this year as usual, otherwise i'll be running around the shopping centre's, going just a tad loopy!

I've been thinking about doing 'Questions & Answers' in an upcoming blog, so if you have any questions you would like to ask me, feel free, I can't wait to see what you want to know!

I might be a little bit on the absent front for the next couple of weeks, with some pretty big deadlines looming. I've been feeling really distant lately, my mind feels all over the place. I don't know what I want to do anymore, I'm really not enjoying my University course at all, and would happily leave if I knew what else I would do. I just feel like i'm not interested enough anymore, and am no longer good enough to be on the course, so I'm going to try and immerse myself as much as possible into my work, looking forward to my family visiting the day after my deadlines, and going home a week after that. As one of my friends told me yesterday, it's the little things that make life happy!

I'll be all back to normal once these essays have been handed in, I've got some exciting posts lined up! Thank you for reading my blog, and even following, it really does mean a lot to me! :)

Tartan Scarf!

Is there ever anything that you find yourself looking for, for such a long time that you start to give up? That's what I was like with a tartan scarf! I've spent ages looking for one, they've either been the wrong colours, wrong 'size' tartan (if that makes sense), or just way too expensive! Anyway, the other day in town, I popped into Edinburgh Woollen Mill, and i've never seen so many to choose from, plus there was a pretty good deal, so I was able to buy two! It was a bit silly of me really, I probably should've thought about it earlier!

Right, I'm going to spend the rest of the night baking (and then eating) cookies, when I really should be doing some work instead! I would really love some feedback in terms of what you would like to see on this blog, I really love writing charlestownvintage, but sometimes I worry that it's just like any other, and would love to make it more personal to myself. I mentioned before about my love of history, but now it's winter, most of the National Trust and English Heritage sites are closed, so that aspect has to be put on hold!

Is there anything you would like to see more of on this blog? Please let me know, I would really appreciate your feedback! I'm hoping to incorporate a regular baking feature, would that appeal to you? I also really love interior design, and antique items, so was maybe thinking of doing something on the lines of that, not too sure how yet though! Thank you!!

Rush, rush, rush!

This is quite a bit of a rushed post today, as I need to pop into town to buy something for my housemate, before driving to Plymouth to meet Alessio and spend the day shopping and eating! Yesterday was our High Tea Society's first meeting, in a tearoom in town that i've mentioned before, called Dolly's Tearoom. About 20 people came, and everyone was so lovely, it was really nice to just relax and meet new people over a cream tea, ha! Late last night, I saw the new Twilight film with my housemates, I always leave the cinema feeling a little bit embarrassed and disappointed with these films, but I thought Breaking Dawn, despite the seriously cringe worthy moments, was actually pretty good and true to the book. I have to admit, some of the events towards the end of the film really did scare me like no other recent film has done, did anyone else feel the same, I left feeling pretty weak and sickly? I really didn't expect it to be like that at all, but I guess if it was any other way, I would be disappointed!
This is what I sort of wore yesterday, but I wore a different coat as the weather was pretty chilly outside! Also, I apologise for the silly pose in the last picture, I wanted to show the blazer's elbow patches, but I also can't believe how long my hair is now! It's grown so quickly!
P.S this post was planned for Saturday, but I never got round to finishing it! Plymouth trip was yesterday, and I was pretty bad and bought quite a few bits, which I will be showing very soon!

Leopard Print Coat!

This is the first time that I've ever properly worn this Leopard print coat, i've always been a bit wary of it, thinking the print is a bit too 'showy' for me, all of my coats are extremely plain and simple! I didn't realise how warm it would be, it's so lovely and snuggly, I think I could probably sleep in it, ha!
I bought this blouse the other day from New Look. I've always loved peter pan collars, and this one is sequin too, which just made me love it even more. Lately, it must be the Christmas spirit, I'm being drawn to velvet and sequins. There's so many sequin dresses around at the moment, not sure whether I could pull one off though.
I've just had a pretty average day really, had a lecture at Uni about politics and spent the rest of the day moping around my room. Is it just me that tends to get fed up around this time of year? I think i'm just ready to go home and spend time with my family, hurry up holidays! Are you doing anything special over Christmas? We always tend to have Christmas at home, with just the close family, eating a massive roast dinner and opening pressies!

New Camera Roll!

As I said in my last post, I received my new Canon camera yesterday, and have since spent the entire time taking pictures of everything I can find! Here are some that i've taken so far;

Those crazy tapestry print, lethally high wedges are my new shoes from Asos! As unlikely as it looks, they are so unbelievably comfy! So comfy in fact that, if it were not for my paranoia, I would be tempted to wear them to Uni! Well, I suppose they would be more easily worn in a city such as London, compared to rainy, hilly Cornwall!

I'm still trying to get into the knack of using this camera, and I'm a little bit confused because I bought a wired remote with it, so that I could take outfit post pictures without having to force people to take them for me, however the cable is tiny!! I'm a little bit angry! Does anyone know where I can get a remote for a Canon? Thank you!! Oh, P.S. please excuse my dusty mirror, i'm not very good with dusting, I always forget. Oh, and that's my new winter hat, still a little bit nervous about wearing it out!

City of Lights

Christmas is on it's way!

Yesterday I went to pick up my new camera, which is why I haven't blogged as much lately! I was getting pretty fed up with using my iPhone as a camera, but I'm so pleased with my new Canon, the picture quality is just perfect in comparison, it's so weird taking a picture and the camera just sorting the focus out for me, I suppose i'm just not used to it!

I was able to take my camera out for the first time last night to the Truro City of Lights, which is procession of tissue lanterns made by the local schools and University. The theme this year was Wildlife, and the lanterns were amazing, from small penguins, fish, flowers to massive horses, polar bears and baboons! It was such a lovely experience, I've never seen the streets so packed, it seemed the the whole area turned up. Plus, the Christmas lights were turned on at the end of the parade, which just made the night feel extra Christmassy!

I apologise for the picture heavy post, all of the models were so amazing and looked so intricately made, it was really hard deciding which pictures deserved to be included on this post! I would probably have to say the polar bear and peacock were my favorites, polar bears being my favourite animals, and the peacock because it was such a large model but had been made to that the feathers opened and closed as the parade progressed through the streets!

Now i'm all super excited for Christmas as a result of last night, and due to all of the Christmas adverts coming on television! I've got lots of posts lined up for this blog, and I can't wait to show them all to you! May even post twice today, ha! I just want to say thank you to all of my new followers, it makes me so happy that people are happy to follow my blog, and that, what I think is just silly ramblings and awful pictures, is actually read regularly! I feel like I haven't posted an outfit post in such a long time! I just never get time to, with the darkness setting in earlier and earlier, and my camera quality getting progessively worse with it! I'm hoping to buy myself a Canon 500d or a 1100d, would any of you recommend them as a first dslr? I'll only really be using it for daily photo's, outfits, and pictures with friends and the family :)
How have you all been, have you been up to much lately? I feel like I've spent everyday since Halloween clinging on to Christmas, i'm so excited about going home!

Pretty Patent T-Bars!

As always, when Uni deadlines start to get closer and closer, procrastination becomes more and more harder to escape, and I find myself staring at clothes websites rather than books! I found these t-bars on the UO website, and instantly fell in love! I have a bit of a weakness for t-bar shoes, I love the detailing on these ones, they have a sort of brogue feel, and they're also patent.

After finding these shoes, I soon found myself scouring the internet for possible outfit ideas to match them up with! I've been seeing Romwe being mentioned on quite a few blogs lately, and there's so many nice pieces on there! I'm just a bit worried about the sizing, as most items tend to be labelled as 'one size', however, the pricing seems really reasonable!

All of these pieces above are from Romwe! I really love the wintery feel of all of them, and can just imagine them all with the t-bar shoes, some thick tights, and my winter coat!

I'm really tempted to buy the red skirt and polka dot jumper, I love the sequin collar on it; I can just imagine wearing it on Christmas Day!

Have any of you, my lovely readers, bought anything from Romwe before, would you recommend it? Also, how did you find the sizing if you did, that's the only thing putting me off! :(

Long weekend at home!

(Well, and plus a few days at uni before going home!)

- My OAP outfit for a history society social event, and dressing up as a dead bride for Halloween! As you can tell, makeup isn't my strong point, I'm too impatient!
- One of my favourite roads near my house, I love the colours of the leaves and how the trees are shaped over the road like a tunnel! Going to the next village's church for the Farmer's Market!
- Finding an Emma Bridgewater mug for £2.50 in a charity shop! And getting to see my lovely dog's again, Frank didn't seem as happy to see me.
- My sister's 18th birthday party! Which included eating lots of yummy cupcakes, watching the fireworks and staring in amazement at the sweet trees my mum and dad bought her!

I'm driving back to University tomorrow morning, I dread goodbye's so much! If it only it was a little bit closer, and not a five hour journey!

Farmer's Market

First day back home!

Every Thursday in the next village, there is a little farmer's market. We moved house a couple of months ago from London, and so we're really not used to this sort of thing! Even though there are only a few stalls, it's such a lovely thing to be just around the corner from. Everything sold is either from local businesses, made locally or grown locally, so it's a really nice way to help the local community too! I like going for the homemade cakes and sausage rolls! I think the setting of the market plays a part in making it special too, situated in the grounds and inside of the village church, which really is beautiful!

I've been home since Wednesday afternoon now, and it's little things like this that I've really missed! I feel so lucky to live where I do, with fields just surrounding our house, villages scattered over the countryside, with local pubs serving puddings and custard, and an abundance of National Trust sites!

What do you like about where you live? What are some of the little things that remind you of home? I always find that when I'm at Uni, it's the little outings, homely meals and countryside walks with my dogs that I miss!

I had been looking forward to posting some outfit posts in the pretty backdrop's around here, but I'd only feel comfortable with my sister taking them, and by the time she's home from school it's way too dark for photo's! I'm going to have to try and work out a way around that!

It's my sister's 18th birthday party tomorrow, so I'm so excited about getting the house decorated, getting dressed up and seeing my entire family! 'Love is mean, and love hurts, but I still remember that day we met in December'

Change for Charlestown

When I first started this blog, I never really knew what I wanted out of it, and was just writing it for myself. I chose the simplest layout I could find, with no clue about how to alter it to make it look pretty, and ended up choosing a simple floral pattern and putting my name on it for the blog heading! I've been wanting to change it for such a long time, but i'm pretty useless at drawing, and anything artistic really! However, one of my housemates, Natalie, studies Textiles at Uni, and she is amazing at drawing and painting, and just generally has such a good imagination for this sort of thing. So together we sat down and designed my logo!
The logo is just really a mixture of some of my favourite things, taking inspiration from images on weheartit, which is such a lovely site! Natalie and I designed it in three parts, with three different objects being incorporated; teacups and saucers, doilies, and cameo.

1) Teacups and Saucers;
If you follow me on twitter, or just have read quite a lot of my blog posts, you would know that tea plays a pretty large role in my life, as lame as it sounds! I have a cup of tea first thing in the morning, and last thing in the day, when i'm having lunch or dinner, or just whenever! Me and my lovely friend, Sheri, have set up a Tea Society at Uni to just chat over tea and cake, test out the local tearooms, and to just basically share our love of tea with others!

2) Cameo;

Cameo is my favourite type of jewellery, I've lost count of how many pieces I own! I love the silhouette's, pretty lady's with their hair in buns, and all of the detail around the edge. If i ever get a tattoo, it'd probably be a cameo of some sort!

3) Doilies;

I love the pattern around the edge of a doily, and just seeing all of the pictures of them on Weheartit just made me realise how much one would have to be included in my logo/banner! I also think it has a similar effect of a cameo around my logo, almost like a picture frame.

The finished product, thank you to my lovely housemate, Natalie! I'm so happy with it! She hand drew, and painted, it!

I'm going home tomorrow for my sister's 18th Birthday, and I can't wait! My entire family will be there, which will be lovely! I'll take lots of pictures :)

I can't believe it's November already, it's one of my favourite months with the weather, fireworks night, and just general wrapping up warm, bonfires and dark nights. What are your favourite things about winter time? I can't wait for Christmas!

I have a bit of work coming up at the moment, and am now a Lifestyle editor for my student newspaper, which I can't wait to get started on, but i'm still planning on blogging regularly, I love having this blog, it's like another friend listening to my day, how i'm feeling and what I've been doing!

My Monki Purchases!

I recently bought a few bits off of the Monki website, and spent over a week (im)patiently waiting for them. I think that I can happily say that it is quickly becoming one of my favourite online shops. The clothes are all amazing; I'd been on the look out for a plain blouse with a pointy collar and Monki had the perfect one, and for half price too! Everything has a feminine feel, from the chiffon dresses, to the thick knit cardigans and jumpers. Plus, being the sister company to H&M, nothing is too out of my price range! I can see myself living in Monki for the rest of winter now! I would really recommend taking a look at their online shop, all of the prices are in Euro's, but they do ship to the UK, and it only takes a little over a week.

I just have to tell you how much I dislike these pictures, I look like a five year old girl! Plus, I never even noticed the massive crease in my top until looking back at this! Oh well, I just wanted to show some of the things that I bought, so please bear with me, ha!

I can't believe Halloween is just around the corner, where has this year gone? Me and all of my housemates bought lots of decorations for our house last night, can't wait to put them all up! We're having a party Monday night, and I'm dressing up as a dead bride, so my mission for today, and this weekend, is to find a really old wedding-y dress!

How do you feel about Halloween, I know that it seems to be the holiday that's either loved or hated? What are you dressing up as for Halloween, any ideas?

Historical Outing Post No.2!

St. Mawes, Cornwall

During my first year at University, I never properly ventured out of the campus and local towns. However, I vowed to changed this as I brought my car with me for second year, with the aim to explore my beautiful surroundings that is Cornwall. It would seem like such a shame/waste if I spent 3 years in an area that I never truly knew. So today, me and Alessio decided to venture to St Mawes, a little seaside village just over the Fal Estuary. It's such a lovely little town, if a little small, made up of cobbled streets and cute little cottages. The sea was treacherous and I felt like I spent the entire day clinging onto my hair.

St Mawes hosts one of the best-preserved coastal artillery fortresses built under the reign of Henry VIII, built between 1539 and 1545 to counter any invasion from France and Spain. It's such an amazing building to look at from the outside, but I was quite disappointed with it inside, there was no information inside and the site was left completely empty! When I visit historic sites, I like to be bombarded with information, pictures, and interactive bits to fully learn about the site. Oh well, I had a delicious roast and cream tea which made up for it!

I've recently become a bit obsessed with fur, especially fur collars. I saw this one on asos, and loved how big it was, and immediately was thinking about how many of my coats it would just jazz up a little bit. Plus, it was so warm in the crazy wind today! What do you all think about the new 'fur trend'?

I've set up a lookbook page for all of my upcoming outfit pictures, which I'm planning to do more often! I was really nervous about having my pictures taken in a public place, but it wasn't too bad as the town was so quiet! Ha!

Are there any little seaside towns that you love near you? Or any National Trust or English Heritage sites that you can't resist visiting?

Polka Dots & Autumn Air

Latest Purchases!

There are some really good charity shops in my University town, but I never get the chance to properly have a look in them and do them justice. However, I was able to the other day, and was lucky enough to find a couple of items that I just couldn't resist buying!

1) Polka Dot Shirt;

As soon as I saw this, I knew I had to buy it. Polka dots feature quite a lot in my wardrobe, they go with nearly everything and just add a little something to even the plainest of outfits. I love the fit of this shirt, it's a bit too big for me, but with a waist belt or tucked into something high-waisted it's perfect!

2) Flower Print Blouse;

I love this blouse, I love the colour, the buttons, the collar, the pocket, basically everything about it! It's just a shame it's a tad too big, but I quite like it a bit baggy over a tight dress, or cinched in with a waist belt. Ah, I just love it, I could happily wear this everyday, I'm glad it's starting to get colder now so I can wear it with a chunky knit and have the collar on show!

3) Last but not least, Dark Blue Velvet Maxi Dress;

You can't really see in the pictures, but this dress is a lovely dark blue colour. For some reason, whenever I think of autumn and winter clothing, velvet is one of the first things I think of, for wearing at Christmas parties and on Christmas Day. I love the colour and the shape of this dress, but the length swamps me, plus there is a massive split at the back, which ends on my thigh. I'm going to do some playing around with it and shorten it by quite a bit. I can just imagine wearing this as a mini dress, cinched in at the waist with a slight flair, whilst eating a roast back home!

Have you found any hidden gems recently in charity shops? After finding these, I'm definitely going to have a look more often! What are you favourite things to wear in the autumn and winter?

Sunday Baking!

Scrummy Marble Cake

I bought the Primrose Bakery Book the other day and have since been longing to try out one their lovely recipes. I couldn't resist the marble cake recipe, which also had a hint of pink in it. I've never properly baked before, so I thought I'd start off with something relatively simple, and something that'd go perfectly with a cup of tea!

What you will need:
- 150g unsalted butter (plus some more for greasing tin)
- 175g caster sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 large eggs
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 185ml mik
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- drop of red food colouring

Recipe:
1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees / gas mark 4. Grease a loaf tin, or line with baking paper.
2. Cream the butter and sugar together in a large bowl with an electric whisk, until light and fluffy, then add the vanilla extract. Beat the eggs together in a small bowl, and the gradually add to the butter and sugar, mixing well.
3. Sift the flour and salt into a bowl, and gradually add it to the batter. Alternate with the milk, mixing well. (I got a bit worried about how much mixture there actually was, and how thick it was. But don't worry, it's supposed to be like that!)
4. Divide the mixture between 3 bowls, adding the cocoa powder to one bowl and the red food colouring to another, leaving one bowl untouched. I found that one drop of red food colouring didn't make the shade of red that I wanted, so I just added more until I was happy. Beat the mixtures well.
5. Add alternate spoonfuls of each mixture to the bowl, swirling them with a spoon or knife as you go. Make sure that it is evenly distributed, and do one final swirl once all of the mixture is in the tin. (This was my favourite bit!)
6. Bake for 50-60 minutes in the middle of the oven. When it is finished, a skewer of knife poked into the middle should come out clean. If not, pop back in the oven for 5 minutes or so.
7. Leave to cool for about 10 minutes, and then serve a slice on a pretty plate with a cup of tea! (Or coffee)

I'm hoping to include more recipes on this blog, as I'm trying to improve my baking skills and become a bit more adventurous and independent with them! Is there anything that you would like to see on here? Or anything recipes that you would recommend?

Cocktails and Tapas at Dolly's

The other night, me and Alessio tried out Dolly's Cocktails and Tapas, and you can see what I wore here! Once we'd managed to choose which one to go for out of a list of amazing names, they were served up in teapots and teacups! We went for Flapper's Delight, a mix of vodka, vanilla, lime and apple juice, so delicious and refreshing. I was a bit apprehensive at first, never having had a cocktail before, but i'm so pleased that I did! I love the cat teapot that it was served in, and have been searching on ebay since for one! I might give it a go, and try to make some at home, serving them with my new tea set too.

Have any of you made your own cocktails before? Are there any you'd recommend, I'd quite like to experiment a bit!

Getting ready for Cocktails!

(This is my first proper outfit post, and the first in my new University bedroom! So apologies for the silly poses, silly faces, and annoying camera quality!)

Dress: River Island Shoes: New Look

I'm getting ready to try out cocktail night at Dolly's Tearoom in town, where I went the other day, apparently they serve them from teapots into cups and saucers, how cute! They also all have unusual names like 'Mad Hatter's Tea Party' and 'St.Valentines Day Massacre'.

I'm wearing my dress that arrived the other day from River Island, I'd been lusting over it for a while until it sold out online and in the shops that I managed to have a look in. That was until I found it on Asos and snapped it up!

Tea for Two!

..At Dolly's Tearoom, Falmouth

I finished University early today, so me and a friend, Sheri, popped into town for Afternoon Tea. It hasn't been open for very long, and I've never actually eaten in there before, but boy will I be going back!

It's beautifully decorated inside, with miss matching tables and chairs, pretty fabric and wallpaper, and teacups and saucers in every nook and cranny. Sheri and I both had the 'High Tea', which consisted of a sandwich, scone with cream and jam, a slice of cake and a cup of tea. Delicious! The food was so lovely, it was just a shame that we couldn't eat it all!

Dolly's Tearoom is such an amazing place. It's pretty hard to find within the town, hidden above the town Bookshop, but it's such a little gem! I can tell that the majority of my spare time (and my loan!) will be spent in this little piece of heaven.

In other news, I've been a bit of a bad student and bought quite a few bits and bobs, including the River Island dress that I've been searching for everywhere! All to come on my next blogpost!

I also wanted to say thank you to my latest followers on here, it means so much to me to know that someone out there must like my blog enough to follow it, thank you again!

Back to University!

My little 'love affair'
I suppose you could say that I have a little love affair with stationery. Whenever University comes back around, it's probably the thing that I spend the most of my time lusting over, and money on! I have a little bit of an obsession with diaries, for some reason I have about five for this year alone, and I doubt that I'll ever write in them, they're just nice to look at!
My favourite stationery company at the moment is O-Check. They're a Korean company that produce the loveliest designs I've ever seen! They all have an old-fashioned feel to them, with French phrases on the front of the diaries, floral patterns, and even stag images.
I couldn't resist the brown case, with staining and French phrase on this diary, and quickly snapped it up when I saw it!

I've been attempting to write in it so far, I find it hard not writing lists of everything that needs doing.

However, i'm left-handed and write quite strangely, (everyone seems to comment on it!), and really do not want to ruin the pages!

I wanted to apologise for my lack of posts recently, it's been over a week! But i've only been back at university for a week, and am still settling in, there's been so many things going on. I've been helping out at various mentor events, history society meetings, and just the other day was the Fresher's Fayre where I held a stall for my High Tea Society. The response was amazing, and over 230 people joined in under two hours! I don't have a clue where we'll find a tearoom big enough!

I've also been attempting to organise my bedroom. I have so many little bits and pieces, but no where to put them! Here's a sneak peek;

Oh, I do love to be beside the Seaside!

I drove back to University the other day on my own, and the past couple of days here have just been so hectic! From meeting mentee's, talking in front of all of the new History students (which I hated), to trying to sort out my mess of a room!

My week wasn't too busy, it was mainly preparing myself for going back to University! Me and my mum went to a farmer's market in the next village for the first time and came back with some of these lovely sunflowers, I made a peach and raspberry smoothie which was so delicious, if a little bit thick. I went to Ightham Mote with my boyfriend. The last two pictures are of my last night in Kent, enjoying a walk in the Orchards and taking in the view! I miss it so much already.
I was hoping to sort out a scheduled post for the Sunday whilst I would have been in the car, however I can't work it out! I tried it before and it was published at American time i'm guessing?

I'm trying to get my hands on a pretty good camera, I've been wanting one for ages and now just seems the perfect timing, so get ready for pictures of much better quality!

For some reason, I wasn't particularly looking forward to coming back to University, but now that I'm here, I love it! I feel so lucky that it's in a seaside town! I'm hoping to get some outfit posts going, and as soon as i'm all settled in there will be some more 'Historical Outing Posts' coming!

New Girl
Starring Zooey Deschanel

Ever since I heard her voice and saw her face in the Christmas comedy Elf, I loved and admired Zooey Deschanel. She seems so down to earth, and yet different at the same time. She's not like other 'celebrities', I wish I could own her entire wardrobe, steal her hair, and be that character she's plays in every film/programme. And now she's in a new hit TV programme called 'New Girl', where she plays a newly single girl who moves into a flat with four single men. It's been really popular in America, even though it's only the pilot episode has been shown, but I'm already anxious to find out when it'll be shown over here! It looks like a typical role for Zooey, a quirky, unusual, and sort of ditsy girl, but I don't think it'd be the same any other way!

I wish I could just have her hair and wardrobe and be done with it!

Historical Outing Post No.1

Ightham Mote
(I really do not like the name of this post!)

The other day, I decided that I was going to make something of a regular post relating to history and the historical sites that I visit, as I tend to visit them quite a lot. This is my pioneer post so wish me luck!

Ightham Mote has always been one of my favourite sites, I’m not really too sure why, but I just love how it’s such a beautiful building situated at the bottom of a hill, surrounded by trees, and of course a moat. It’s just seems so beautiful, but isolated! Strangely enough, it’s actually only a walk away from my new house, so the other day, me and my boyfriend had a lovely stroll there and spent the day looking round the house and having a delicious lunch.

The house itself is over 700 years old, and has been owned by medieval knights, some of Henry VIII’s courtiers and high-society Victorians. David Starkey even described it as being ‘one of the most beautiful and interesting of the English country houses’. But for me, personally, I would just happily live in the Servant’s Quarters, I loved the Butler’s kitchen, with all of it’s wood panelling, as well as his ‘living room’ with the massive bell jar and old-fashioned settees.
When we were walking back home, we managed to stop for some outfit pictures! I really don't like it when someone else is behind the camera, but it's all alright, I suppose it's just something i'm going to have to get used to if I want to actually have outfit posts of decent quality on here!

‘History… is more often shaped by the many acts of the small’

I love history. It’s as simple as that. I can’t really explain why, and when people ask me why I’m studying it at University I never really know what to say, apart from just explaining my love affair with it. I think I’ve always had a romanticised idea about history, imagining glorified wars, forbidden love affairs, secrets in ancient houses and within grand family estates. However, it’s also about understanding other people’s lives, for example, my grandmothers. What did they do when they were our age, what did they listen to, how did they dress, what did they eat, how did they live, etc. I truly think that understanding, and respecting, your ‘history’ is one of the most important things in life, and I genuinely love what I study.

That’s why I’ve decided to do a regular post topic on a historical site, for example, my National Trust visits. I love the National Trust, and all that it represents, it’s displaying history to the public, for all to see. The buildings are always beautiful, with pretty gardens you could just get lost in, and let’s face it, the cake delicious! So, this is going to become on of my regular post topics! I write about what I love, and what interests me, on this blog, and history is a big part of my life! So, I hope all of you readers enjoy my historical upcoming blog posts! (Luckily, where my University is, I never seem to be far from some sort of museum, grand old house, or ancient site!)

Alexa Chung Pt Two:

I know that practically every blog relatively linked to fashion has probably featured the new Alexa Chung collection, but there's no way that I could have ignored a collection by one of my 'girl-crushes' for one of my favourite shops. I have to admit, I am pretty glad that i'm not so overly in love with the collection as I was last year, and with no Madewell shop in the UK and no shipping internationally, the chances of me buying anything are very slim anyway.

However, just because I prefered last years collection doesn't mean that I do not adore this years one!

I love how versatile all of the pieces are, and how they seem so stylishly 'thrown-together', which to me, just sums up Miss Chung's look. I sometimes find that with collections designed by a famous individual, the looks are harder to replicate without actually buying from their own collection. However, with this one, it's easy to take inspiration from an outfit or two, and add your own twist to it. For example, I love the look with the pink jeans and sequin top, a similar look could probably be purchased from a high street shop.

Luckily, my dad is actually in New York when the collection is released, so I may have to ask him to buy the Palm Tree patterned dress for me. It brings a bit of summer back into autumn!

I love the tartan mac style coat, with the peter pan collar and massive pockets, the perfect autumn jacket to throw over a dress. Just have to wait till Madewell open a store in the UK!

Autumn Excitement!

'dark days of autumn rain are as beautiful as days can be..'

Autumn is, and always will be, my favourite season. I’ve never been keen on being too hot, or too cold, and you can easily add or take away an extra layer in autumn! I love being able to wrap up warm, and still feel the chill of the autumn air on your face and hands. I love the tonal colours, from the reds, oranges, and browns. Going for walks in a sea of red leaves, hearing their crackles and crunches with every step. I love waking up to a sunny, but chilly, morning seeing nothing but frost and dew on the ground. Autumnal clothes are also my favourite, layering dresses with a thick coat, tights and boots. Plus, how could anyone resist toffee apples?! I know I certainly can't!

Feeling Coat-iful

I can't wait for Autumnal clothes!

If I had to choose one item of clothing that I couldn’t live without, it would have to be coats. I love coats, and, if they weren’t so expensive, would buy them in every shape/style/colour possibly imaginable! I guess that I already have a pretty big collection of coats, but I don’t think that I could ever let autumn come around without buying a new one, or two if I’m lucky!

There’s quite a few I’ve got my eyes on this year, and as I’ve just got myself a job, maybe I could treat myself!

1) Duffel Coat with Hood, from Asos
I've wanted a duffel coat for quite a while now, they just look so snuggly and warm, and I love the toggles and hood on this one. This camel colour would also go with practically every item of clothing in my wardrobe!
2) Pins & Needles Burgundy Duffle Coat, from UO
Another duffel coat! I love the massive collar on this one, and this colour has been one of my favourites for the past two winters. It just seems to be the perfect autumn colour, and it goes with nearly everything.
3) Navy Print Collar Coat, from River Island
I've never actually been brave enough to wear animal print, especially not leopard, so this coat, with just the hint of pattern looks pretty and I feel brave enough to wear it.
4) Leopard Print Faux Fur Coat, from River Island
I LOVE this coat, I just wish it wasn't so expensive, and that I would actually be brave enough to wear it. I love the darker Peter Pan-style collar, and the fit looks really nice, I just don't know if I'll be able to psyche myself up enough to wear it out!

Now, which one do I go for, that's the real question. I can't have them all, a girl can dream I guess.

Book for Angels

The Vintage Tea Party Book by Angel Adoree

About a month ago, I stepped into Waterstones near Charing Cross and saw this book in the 'Best of British' section. The pictures on the cover caught my eye, from the stags wearing monocles to the array of china teacups and cake stands! It was a little bit out of my price range, so I just told myself i'd treat myself another time. Lately, I've noticed that it's been popping up more and more on blogs without a bad word being said about it. So yes, I bought it.

I don't think i've ever actually bought a recipe book for myself, but this one is different. Not only does it include delicious ideas, from breakfasts to alcoholic drinks, it also has beauty, fashion, and craft tips!
I'm always getting told by my family that I must live in a sort of dream world that no one else is a part of, this book just immerses me into it more, and will not fail to every time I open the cover! It just makes me wish that I lived in a world where every meal was classed as being a 'tea party', with hand designed invitations, pretty porcelain and hand made decorations!

Just yesterday, me and one of my friends set up a Tea Society at our University, so I'm going to have to have a dab at some of the recipes in here. It may take maybe two (dozen) attempts though for the presentation to match those showcased in here! I tend to be pretty sloppy!
I would definitely recommend this to anyone, I don't understand how anyone could not like it?!

Busy, busy girl.

Hello blogger world!

My life has been pretty hectic as of late, and so I haven’t really had anytime to blog whatsoever! I recently moved house with my family to a little village in Kent, which is quite a big culture shock moving from a suburb of London. With the stress of moving house, packing, making sure that every box is labelled correctly with what is inside, if the contents are breakable, and then which room the box is going into, I have to admit I did lose my laptop for about a week! Plus, I haven’t had any internet since moving either! Talk about the technological world being against me blogging!

In the little time that I did find to escape the house and explore the area, I stumbled into an American Diner. (Not really stumbled, it was planned and booked weeks in advance, ha!) The Diner itself exceeded my expectations, sometimes I can find that 50’s style diner’s try way too hard and can tend to look a little bit gaudy and tacky. This diner, however, looked so authentic and you could tell that every single detail had been carefully thought over. Now, my favourite part was, of course, the food! I had a Bacon Cheeseburger and God was it good! You can’t forget the milkshake, with which I was safe and had strawberry, delicious! I’ve noticed lately that I have a bit of an obsession with American Pancakes. They can be with fruit, maple syrup, golden syrup, scrambled eggs, bacon, I don’t care, I love them and could probably eat the with every meal if they weren’t quite so stodgy and, let’s not lie, not very healthy. So, you can probably guess what I had for breakfast, PANCAKES!

The past week i've been staying with my grandparents in the Highlands of Scotland. Their house is on top of a hill and is surrounded by fields and woods. It's the perfect place to venture to (eleven hour 'trip' for me!) if you're need of a relaxing holiday.

Although, we've still been making sure that we go out nearly everyday. Even though it takes almost an hour to actually get anywhere, I really love it here because of the number of Castles and old Houses there are that are open to the public, and it's something that we tend to visit a lot whenever we come up here.

That and farm fair's and shops, ha!

In terms of blogging, I'm getting some layout and design help from Alessio, and I'm slowly getting over my fear of taking pictures of myself.

Moving House!

In only 8 days time, I'll be in my very own house!
I cannot wait, me and 6 of my friends are moving in to Victorian house, and it's so cute.
I'm so excited about moving in, it'll be so much different to living in University halls. I've got the attic room, which is the biggest bedroom in the house, and I'm going to make it all cosy and warm.
Another bonus, it's only a two minute walk from the beach. TWO MINUTES. It just makes me realise how lucky I am to go to a really good University, and at the same time still live right next to a beach, in Cornwall.

I'll put some photo's up of the house once i'm all moved in!!

Happiness

It's so strange, lately I feel like everything seems to be going how I want it to, and I just feel so, so lucky!

Quite a while ago, I applied to be the lifestyle editor of the University Magazine, and I got it! I'm so excited, it involves me deciding what I think should be included in each issue and delegating my ideas to writers, and I can even write articles myself. I feel so lucky to have this opportunity, I love writing, and doing a history degree, I'm used to it! Only, I can actually write about fashion and trends that capture my interest, rather than rambling on for thousands and thousands of words for an essay on a historical topic that does not particularly interest me!

I'm also won an election to be the secretary of the History Society Committee! My role is quite similar to in the magazine, being involved in delegating ideas and plans for the society and organising everyone within it. I can't wait to start properly next term, meeting all of the new History Freshers.

Both of these things have made me so happy, I don't think i've ever felt so at ease with myself, it's made me realise that if I put my mind to it I am capable! There's no need for me to feel that I'm not as good as anyone else in what I do, because it's not true!

Another highlight of my life, albeit a bit less academic haha, are my recent purchases! I bought so beautiful platform wedges recently from Topshop, and they're truly the comfiest high shoes that i've ever worn! It's my first step to wearing some form of heel every day, I just love how they instantly make someone look much more mature but at the same time, cute. I'll have some pictures on the way!

I'm slowly gathering my confidence to put together some outfit posts, and I've already planned some! Looking forward to it!

That Royal Wedding

I also promise to write more and more on here, and to do that on a regular basis, but that never happens! Sheesh.

It's slowly but surely turning into Spring! My favourite time of the year, I love having early morning walks in the country with my family, and how it always seems that little bit warmer and sunnier, and seeing the beautiful daffodils everywhere!

As it's coming into April, something pretty darn big is going to be happening in England, and even though I really couldn't care less about the Royal family and hate all of the aura surrounding them, I couldn't help but fall in love with all of the commemoration china that's been created.

I'm sort of lame in that over the past couple of years I've been collecting old coronation cups and have about 9 now, the oldest from 1902, so all of this was heaven to me;

All of the bits in the first picture, and all of these plates are made by a company called Talking Tables and they sell party pieces for pretty much any occassion, and they're all so amazingly pretty, especially the Luscious Tea Party set!

These plates above are actually paper plates, everything on there is made out of paper, and so are perfect for parties, no need to wash up!

I want everything in this set! Especially the bunting and the plates, and they're not even that expensive, everything ranges from £3.50 to £10.00

I am going to have this! Even if I'll be sat on my own eating, I really couldn't care less! Haha. And i'd be eating these cute biscuits also specially made for the Wedding on my matching plates;

These biscuits from the company called Biscuiteers come in various shapes, such as crowns, the coach, Union Jack, wedding cake, etc, and they come in the pretty tin! You get 16 for £38.50, and as this is pretty steep for me, I've asked for them for my birthday as it's only a week before the wedding! I'm so excited!

On a different note, I'm at home for the weekend after missing my family so much more this term than the last, probably because I'm all settled in properly at University.

I'll keep you updated, I promise! I actually, strangely, really enjoyed this post, compared to some others where I feel like i'm writing them for the sake of it!

Hello World!

Oh, how I've missed you all!

But that doesn't mean I haven't been obsessively following my favourite blogs daily to see whats going on in the blog world.

I've found it really hard to make myself start up this blog again, what with starting University a couple of months ago and coping with the amount of work piling up, whilst trying to be with my flatmates as much as possible.

But, having said that, I'm having the time of my life! I'm so so glad I decided to come to this University in the end, as I truly believe i'm living with the best flatmates in the Uni-verse.

When I started this blog, I really didn't know what sort of direction I wanted to aim it towards, but now, due to inspiration from my favourite bloggers, I've decided that this is going to be a diary-blog of my life, focusing on fashion-y stuff and just general nice-ness. :)

In particular, one thing pushed me to start up this blog again, and this was the new photoshoot by A|Wear, called the 'Factory Girl' collection.

I really love the whole look in the collection, the sixties styling being one of my favourites!

Plus, it features my favourite model at the moment, who also models for ASOS, slight girl-crush i'll admit!

Right now, I really need to focus on my 'studies' and now that I've realised my goal for this year I just need to reach it.

Tea Time

and back to school.

I had a really lovely half-term, even if it did fly by just a bit too quickly.

I visited Hampton Court Palace with my family, which was unusual as it was built in two separate sections in two different eras. It felt like it had it's own village inside the Palace walls as it was made up of lots of higgledy-piggledy alleyways. It was just too cold to concentrate, so we went and sat in the tea-room.

I've noticed that with my family, we always base our opinions on the quality of the tea-room!

On Thursday, me and Jo went to Canterbury, and had 'afternoon tea' in Tiny Tims!

And spent a lot of the time in the 'Ghost Room'.

PS. I don't understand why my pictures refuse to align how I want them to!

I want spring to arrive. I want daffodils to bloom. I want to stop wearing so many layers. I want to stop driving everywhere and go out on my bike instead.

Yes, I have been a bit 'down in the weather' lately, it just feels like everything is going wrong. And I have absolutely no control of it either.

Spring's arrival would just be the best possible remedy.

Resolutions.

So here are my very belated resolutions for this not so new-any-more-year. I thought I had better write them down to authenticate them, otherwise I would never actually get round to doing them, and so here it goes;

1) Stop being so paranoid. I felt this one should be number one as if i manage to 'complete this task' most aspects of my life would change. Not that I'm agoraphobic or anything, if I wasn't so worried all of the time I would be able to be so much more independent, which I need to practice being for University.
2) Be able to hold my motivation for a longer period of time. These A-levels are not going to be able to complete themselves.
3) Stop wasting money on pointless things.
4) Save money. Yes, i'm deluding myself, but might as well try.
5) Get into York University. Although this is pretty out of my hands now, but I want to go there so badly it hurts.
6) Go skydiving.

I'm sure theres many more that I just can't think of right now, which I will add when I think of them.

I haven't really been able to post anything ever since my laptop broke, but now it's fixed it feels nice to be back on the blogger-wagon.
And so here I am, yet again.

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and has a happy New Year!
I really enjoyed Christmas this year, we had a quiet house and stayed at home, which was nice as our house is usually the one filled with the whole family.

And I got my bike for Christmas, which I had been in love with for months ever since I saw it at York, although I haven't really had a chance to go out on it as it has been pretty precarious with all the ice, which has now finally gone!

Hidden away in the Shop office this Saturday there were quite a few envelopes jam-packed with lovely things, there were birthday cards, christmas cards, postcards, invitations. There were too many to look at and too little time to properly examine every one, but we were very much tempted to close the shop for at least an hour to do so!

Most of them were dated, and the earliest was from 1938. It was really sad looking at them all as they had obviously been collected by someone and had meant a lot to that person as it was their life in a few envelopes.

December the First.

Yes, Christmas season is fast approaching, where did November go? It was over so quickly, I miss it already.

But what a better way to start the month, and to start the Christmas-sy feel, than the Innocent Smoothies with the little hats :)

I bought my 'Strawberries and Banana' with a cute little white beanie with a pink bobble.

I have completed my UCAS, which is now making it's way through internet post offices and postmen to reach my prospective Universities. What a relief.

I have that strange feeling yet again where nothing feels real, I feel like my head is constantly in the clouds and never in reality, and every now and again, it's almost as if my dream bubble is being popped and i'm falling back down to the ground. I think it's being in a routine which causes me to feel like this, I do like the security of a routine but at the same time I just want something amazingly exciting to happen.

I read a post the other day about Bright Star, and i'm still waiting to see it. I was extremely annoyed to find that they don't seem to be showing it in any cinemas nearby, and i really don't understand why.
The website makes me long to see it even more.

Could you imagine how lovely it would be to get this valentine through your letterbox.

Remembrance Sunday.

11th November 1945, end of the Second World War.
I went to church on Remembrance Sunday, the only time i ever go in a year, to remember those who gave their lives to save ours, and laid poppies on the war graves.
I know that i am extremely patriotic, not for our country today as such, but for my country in the past, and it disgusts me when people do not show enough respect for those who fought, and are still fighting, for our country and us.

This poem is beautiful:

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie

To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
